Emergency crews responded to a brushfire near Taxter Road in the town of Greenburgh.

"The smoke was unbelievable," said John Lubina, who lives nearby.

The call for the brushfire first came in around 12:30 p.m. Thursday. When fire crews arrived, there were flames in a wooded area on the side of the road, not far from several homes.

"There's not a lot of trails up here, so it was tough getting to the backside of the fire, but we made it back there and we made a pretty good stop, so very proud of the guys,” said Daniel Billings, 1st assistant chief with the Irvington Fire Department.

Officials say the heat, wind and dry conditions, as well as having to go up a large hill, made this brushfire challenging to battle.

"We transported one adult firefighter to a local hospital with heat exhaustion. Very intense heat and very tough, firefighters wearing very heavy gear,” said Chief Lucas Isola, of Irvington Volunteer Ambulance.

Officials say no one is seriously hurt.

The brushfire brought in a large emergency response, with several agencies, including Irvington, Tarrytown and Dobbs Ferry responding.

The cause is under investigation, but officials say it appears to be accidental.
