Lawrence Township man charged after dirt bike crash seriously injures juvenile bicyclist

Authorities identified the dirt bike operator as Keith Terwilliger, 21, of Lawrence Township. He was arrested and charged with assault by auto.

A Lawrence Township man has been charged after police said he was riding a gas-powered dirt bike on a sidewalk and struck a juvenile bicyclist head-on, seriously injuring the boy.

Police said the crash happened at about 8:08 p.m. on April 14 in the area of 2083 Lawrence Road. Officers responding to the scene found that the dirt bike rider was traveling northbound on the southbound sidewalk of Lawrence Road when he collided with a juvenile male who was riding his bicycle southbound on the same sidewalk.

The juvenile suffered serious injuries and was taken to Capital Health Regional Hospital for initial treatment before being transferred to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick for further care, police said. The dirt bike operator reported no injuries.

Authorities identified the dirt bike operator as Keith Terwilliger, 21, of Lawrence Township. He was arrested and charged with assault by auto. Terwilliger was released pending a court appearance.

Police said Terwilliger also was issued seven motor vehicle summonses.
