One person was killed and three others were wounded in a Saturday night shooting in Paterson, according to City Councilman Luis Velez.
Officers found four gunshot wound victims in the area of East 29th Street and 10th Avenue. at about 6 p.m., according to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office
All four were transferred to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center.
Authorities say a 20-year-old male from Oxford was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Two of the victims remain in critical condition, according to prosecutors office, and one is in stable condition.
A children's birthday party was reportedly taking place nearby at the time. Witnesses told News 12 they heard when multiple rounds were fired and ran inside for cover.
Police were seen putting down several evidence markers at the crime scene.
"I can confirm that four people have been shot. Unfortunately we have four victims. We have officers at the hospital, we're monitoring their condition," said Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh.
According to councilman Velez, all the victims are under 30 years old.
The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office and Paterson Police Department continue to investigate.
