Police and state investigators are looking into allegations of child abuse at a Northport day care, with officials saying some concerns may have gone unreported.
Suffolk County Police said Special Victims Unit detectives are investigating reports made April 10 involving a day care employee at The Learning Experience on Fort Salonga Road.
The Office of Children and Family Services found several violations at the facility, including the use of corporal punishment.
State Records also reveal children who were toilet training were disciplined in a way that may have frightened or humiliated them.
Records further show staff failed to report suspected abuse, and some employees did not meet required qualifications.
One mother exclusively told News 12 her 3-year-old son was abused at the daycare and said her concerns were previously ignored.
“Just knowing that we’ve brought up so many concerns and they’ve gone on deaf ears, it really makes us as parents realize you have to trust your instincts,” she said. “This is just a parent’s worst nightmare.”
News 12 reached out to the daycare’s corporate office for comment but has not yet received a response. The facility remains open as the investigation continues.
